I have the java version "1.6.0_15" on my mac boom pro, if have a program called converter.java saved in documents how do i compile and run it, i have looked on the web, please only reply if you know how do it yourself.

Ok. Open up terminal. (spot light it if you don't know where it is)
it will start you off in your ~/YOUR_LOGIN_NAME/ folder.
if you type ls, it will list all the files in your current directory. To move to another directory, type "cd" (change directory), then the name of the directory you want to go to. Do this until you are at the directory with the java file. to move up one directory, type "cd .."
When you're at the desired directory, simply type this.
"javac converter.java", it will then compile, and spit out any errors in you're code. When it is compiled, and free of errors, enter "java converter", and it will run.
Or you can use an IDE. Xcode works, so does BlueJ, or even eclipse.
